How I Shoot

Portraits

The following outlines the process for portrait shoots and how costs are calculated:

Either I contact you or you contact me with interest to shoot. We discuss what you want to shoot. This preferably is an expression of your unique personality. We brainstorm creatively together what the shoot might involve and where.

We both look for example images online to illustrate the vision and to give us both clear goals of what we’re aiming to capture.

I’ll give you an estimate for the number of hours it’ll take to shoot and edit the images in post-production. Sometimes I will shoot TFP, i.e. free, so that we can both build our portfolios. You are not billed for the time we spend brainstorming the concept together. Estimates are negotiable to a certain extent. I will work with you on some really interesting images at a lower rate if the project is conceptually interesting. We agree to the rate.

For shoots outside of Minneapolis: travel, hotel and food will be billed to you with receipts within a prior-agreed budget.

If you prefer we can meet (if we’ve never met before) over coffee to get comfortable with each other and build a rapport. This will benefit the shoot but is not a necessary step.

We meet at the location. Any make-up that is needed is applied. And we shoot. We have fun with it. Most important is that we both walk away from the experience having enjoyed it.

Clothing will be provided by you since you know your sizes etc.

If you wish to shoot in a studio that can be arranged. There is an additional studio and lighting fee. The amount depends on the number of hours. This will be estimated and agreed upon up front.

I will then take a few days to edit the photos and will send you a link to download the images.

Then you pay, if applicable.

Types of portrait shoots I shoot:

All shoots are held at a safe location you feel comfortable being photographed in.

I prefer shooting with interesting backgrounds whether that be a landscape, graffiti, a derelict building, interesting interiors, etc.

Genres: creative & conceptual portraits, fashion, artistic nudes and implied nudes

All photography will be shot tastefully to fulfill the vision we both have.

Types of portrait I do not shoot:

Couples for engagements or weddings, baby or child portraits, corporate or family portraits.

This is a collaborative process. I like you to be as involved as much as possible in the creative process and vision. This ensures that we’re both excited about what we are creating together.

Concerts

The following outlines the process for concert shoots and how costs are calculated:

Either I contact you or you contact me with interest to shoot. We discuss what you want to shoot.

I’ll give you an estimate for the number of hours it’ll take to shoot and edit the images in post-production. Estimates are negotiable to a certain extent. We agree to the rate, number of images, date, time, place, access to the stage and band.

For shoots outside of Minneapolis: travel, hotel and food will be billed to you with receipts within a prior-agreed budget.

We meet at the location prior to the concert to walk through the location, angles of shots, access and no-go areas, etc.

I shoot the concert.

I will then take a few days to edit the photos and will send you a link to download the images.

Then you pay.

Types of concert shoots I shoot:

  • Mostly these music genres: rock, independent, electronic.

Types of concerts I do not shoot:

  • At this time I do not shoot festivals but this can be discussed on a case-by-case basis.

Copyright

I like to work with full copyright usage for me and for you. This means that you and I can use the images for whatever purpose we want to. I will usually only use the images for self-promotion on this website, my social media pages and my business cards . However, depending on the image, I may want to sell the image as a print or show the photograph in an exhibition. We can agree upon copyright terms prior to shooting as well as the rate.

Rates

Rates are negotiable to some extent. As long as I am covering my time and expenses, plus a little profit, I will work with you to fit within your budget. Everything is discussed and agreed to upfront.

  • Hourly rate: $100/hour
  • Additional studio rate: $100/hour
  • Additional lighting rate: $200/day (when shooting on location lights are not usually required)
