Having descended from the lineage of Antarctic explorer Sir Ernest Shackleton, travel and exploration are in Andrew Hayward Smith’s genes. Born and raised in the small northern town of Nantwich, England, Andrew emigrated to Miami, Florida in 1990. In September 2016, Andrew left the full-time corporate world of advertising, and moved to Minneapolis to become a full-time student studying a Masters Degree. Andrew’s professional career has been focused on the advertising and marketing of luxury goods and services.
From 1996 to 2013 he produced and hosted a weekly, hour-long volunteer radio program (Esquire magazine) for the print impaired on WLRN’s Radio Reading Service. His voice over work has been featured in advertising campaigns.
In 2009 he completed a 14,000-mile solo motorcycle journey around the United States and published a book “Triumph Across The USA”. In 2013 he completed a 22,500-mile solo motorcycle journey from Miami to the Arctic Circle and back again. The journey covered 127 days, many USA states, and the whole of the Trans Canada Highway. With the “Arctic Ride for Dreams” Andrew combined all of his passions in life: travel, charitable causes, marketing, photography and writing. He hopes one day to continue with another long distance motorcycle journey. To venture beyond into new discoveries and new ways of looking the world.
Andrew has a 30-year career in advertising and marketing, most recently for seven years with LGD Communications in Miami as Director of Client Services. He has worked for pre-eminent advertising firms in London and Miami including: D. Gosden & Co Ltd (the oldest ad agency in England and the only specialists in classical music advertising), Crispin, Porter + Bogusky, and Pinkhaus. Clients and campaigns have included: the Royal Albert Hall, the Royal Festival Hall, the Barbican Center, the Royal Opera House, Julian Lloyd-Weber, Mercedes-Benz, Bacardi, Virgin Atlantic Airways, Trump Ocean Club, Trump Hollywood, Marquis Residences, Privé at Island Estates, Marina Palms Yacht Club & Residences, Fortune International, Molson Beer, Mini Cooper, Kempinski Hotels, and The Helen Hayes Theatre on Broadway.
From 2006 to 2013 Andrew was involved in strategy and marketing, and as employee of Radio-Active Records in Fort Lauderdale, helping to expand the independent record from 500 square feet to a new location with over 5,000 square feet and a stage for in-store concerts. Bands performing at the store included: David J (of Bauhaus), YACHT, the Jacuzzi Boys, Million Young, Rat Bastard, Kenny Millions, Beach Day, Sal Salvatore of Liquid Liquid, and many others. Today, Radio-Active Records remains one of the pre-eminent independent record stores in the USA.
Andrew is currently studying a Master of Divinity degree at Underground Seminary, a professional photographer, pursuing acting, and developing new business for LGD Communications in Miami and Sharp Creative in Minneapolis.
